The waste-to-energy plant in turin: an inclusive plant for visits
The Gerbido waste-to-energy plant experiences a high volume of visits each March, attracting schools from all educational stages, as well as organized groups and institutions eager to understand how TRM operates. A particularly significant request this year came from a large group from the ENS of Turin (National Organization for the Deaf), who expressed interest in touring the facility.
To ensure the greatest possible inclusiveness, the tours, conducted by Iren Group staff, were supported by a LIS interpreter.
After an initial presentation of the context and facility in the classroom, an on-site visit to the plant followed. The presence of the interpreter ensured the visit's effectiveness, greatly satisfying the more than fifty participants, who asked numerous questions, making the experience truly unique and participatory.
Additionally, the presence of images and drawings throughout the tour helped visitors better understand the complex waste-to-energy process.
Opening the plant to local associations, as well as to all citizens during the 'open days,' has always been a core practice of the Turin plant. This approach reflects a commitment to transparency, providing an experiential insight into its operations through a dedicated pathway.
Since the construction phase, the facility has hosted all visitors, customizing each visit to meet their specific needs and expectations. Adapting content, language, and communication strategies consistently demonstrated the facility's commitment to introducing the waste-to-energy plant to all stakeholders.
