Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure
Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure
Since the project start, TRM has payed attention to environmental sustainability, i.e. the impact of its choices on the environment and on the population involved in the management of the waste-to-energy plant.
Consistent with the guidelines established by the Code of Ethics, TRM has planned the design, the construction and the management of the Turin waste-to-energy plant according to safety principles, environmental protection and social responsibility to guarantee the citizens.
After presenting the Environmental Impact Study, the Turin waste-to-energy plant project obtained the positive assessment in the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure and the Integrated Environmental Authorization.
Integrated Environmental Authorisation
Granted to TRM on 21 December 2006 and subsequently renewed in accordance with regulations, the Integrated Environmental Authorisation governs the “integrated prevention and reduction of pollution” (IPPC – Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) and represents the first application, within the production process, of a new integrated approach to the control and prevention of pollution caused by large industrial plants.
In addition to verifying compliance with the provisions contained in the Environmental Impact Assessment, the evaluation also analysed the technological and management aspects capable of generating potential environmental impacts.
The Integrated Environmental Authorisation is valid for 16 years (or until 4 years after the publication of new sector-specific BATs).
