Great success for Prometeo
In the unique setting of the waste-to-energy plant, on Saturday 25 May, Prometheus was staged, based on Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound and reimagined in an evocative and site-specific performance by the PoEM company.
An event that brought together art and technology – two sides of the same coin – in the name of the fire of Prometheus, the titan who stole fire from the gods, the same one that inside the plant burns waste and transforms it into new energy.
Prometheus gave men the “téchne”, not just technique, but the “art of know-how”. In its literal sense, we consider technique as merely mechanical and devoid of creativity, in opposition to art: in reality, they are two indissolubly connected concepts, where imagination and mastery have the same root, each indispensable to the other, and together forming a complementary whole.
TRM is a plant that, through advanced "téchne", facilitates the recovery of energy still contained in the waste, producing electricity and heat: waste that cannot be retrieved through separate collection becomes something new. The waste-to-energy plant is therefore to all intents and purposes the place of technology, where Prometheus' fire meets matter.
Directed by Gabriele Vacis, who also adapted the play from Aeschylus' original, the actors of PoEM performed the Greek tragedy on a flatbed trailer serving as a stage, positioned at the base of the imposing architecture of the waste-to-energy plant as a unique backdrop.
